Over the past 2 weekends, Philadelphia has been privvy to some top-notch rugby sporting events. Over the memorial day weekend, the USA rugby league International 9’s tournament hosted by Philly Fight out at Conshoken proved to be a ripper. The event was won by New Zealand Police Fencibles, a big congrats to them and to Philly Fight for hosting (and putting up with our very own Chris Parker…we know how tough that is).
This past weekend saw the College 7’s rugby tournament out at PPL park where a good crowd (including myself) turned out to cheer on their favorites. There were some good clashes throughout the two days, culminating in a Women’s final with Army winning a tightly fought match over Penn State and the Men’s Final seeing Dartmouth far too good for Army. We’re already looking forward to 2012. We’re thinking an Aussies in Philly tailgate next year though!
Pretty sure my coach would’ve slapped me for doing this back in the day but the kiddies over here seem to like it so why not!
