The former Collingwood and North Melbourne star sees Philadelphia’s clashes with division rival Dallas tomorrow and New York Giants next week as the pivotal fortnight in its season. The Eagles are on top of the NFC East division with four matches to play and wins against the Cowboys and Giants could secure their playoff spot. Beyond that, Rocca said the bar was set high, and it all starts in Dallas today against the team that knocked the Eagles out of last year’s playoffs in week one.
“Absolutely (we can make an impact in the playoffs) and that’s why I say these next two games are so important,” Rocca said.
“Dallas didn’t start off (the season) too well, but they’ve racked up some wins and they seem to be on a bit of a roll.
“It’s going to be really important for us to go down to their place and play well, because otherwise we may get a bit of a shock.
“If we can win against Dallas and then win next week against the Giants … depending on what happens with the Giants (against Minnesota tomorrow), we may be able to clinch the division (and a playoff spot) at the end of next week’s game.
“Hopefully, things go our way and that can happen, otherwise we’ve got another couple of big games – Minnesota and Dallas again at home. That’s why it’s an important month for us.”
Rocca wasn’t surprised when Philadelphia was written off this year after trading quarterback Donovan McNabb to Washington, but he said the belief within the team was always strong.
And with an offence led by quarterback Michael Vick and wide receiver DeSean Jackson, Rocca said the Eagles had the ability to do well in the playoffs.
“We’ve just got to make sure if we do get to the playoffs, we’ve got to make sure we’re fit and healthy at the time because we can go deep into them,” he said.
“You can never rule out any team, especially this year.
“There doesn’t seem to be any team you can really rest on and whoever you play, they always have a chance of winning.”
